There is nothing nicer than receiving a gift of a home made treat – except maybe a home made treat gift box containing several treats!
All you need is a cupcake box, some tissue paper, mini loaf cases and clear film bags – and your choice of baked treats. I would always recommend placing the different items in sealed bags to keep them fresh and stop the flavours transferring. You really don’t want a box of goods that all taste the same. Also, storing items that should be soft (like cake) with items that should be crisp (like biscuits) will cause the cake to harden and the biscuits to soften. Whereas, keeping them wrapped will keep them fresh and tasting as they should for several days.
You can also label the items in your home made treat gift box so the recipient knows exactly what they are getting. It is useful to include allergen details and a rough best before date also. I print the details on a sheet of paper and cut each one out with a paper punch then stick them to the packaging, this allows each label to be customised to the product.
Bake your treats just before you give them as a gift. You want the person receiving them to have them as fresh as possible. If it is not possible to bake them all at once then choose items that will keep well and bake them first, with those that are better eaten fresh made last.
For this gift box I included 4 each of Rocky Road, Chocolate Brownies, Malteser cookies and Fifteens with a miniature vanilla sponge cake – made from my Vanilla Cupcake recipe. I split the vanilla sponge cake in two and filled it with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam. You can choose to make any items from all recipes available on this site.
Please feel free to share photos of your home baked treat boxes – I would love to see them!
